Places in My Neighborhood #2

The K3 students are continuing to explore the theme “In My Neighborhood.” Through engaging chants and songs, students are strengthening their vocabulary, practicing familiar sentence patterns, and building confidence in using English. I am incredibly proud of the progress the K3 Rabbit class is making, especially in their growing confidence, active participation, and ability to retain and apply what they have learned. It is wonderful to see their enthusiasm and development as young English learners!

K3 - Show and Tell Around My Neighborhood

 Dear K3 Parents,

Welcome to our exciting new unit in Show and Tell Lessons:

 "Around My Neighborhood"!

This unit focuses on helping our K3 learners explore, identify, and talk about the community places they see every day.

To support our K3 young learners in a rich bilingual environment, our Show and Tell themes will align with the Chinese lessons led by Teacher Sylvia, and Teacher Celine. By exploring topics in both English and Chinese, students can build stronger connections between both languages, deepening their understanding and confidence across both settings.

What Our K3 Students Will Learn

  • Key Vocabulary & Places:

    • Community Services: Post office, hospital, police station, fire station.

    • Shops & Daily Places: Supermarket, bakery, park, school, restaurant.

  • Language & Sentence Structures:

    • Identifying places using: "This is a..." and "I see a..."

    • Expressing functions and activities: "We buy bread at the bakery" or "The doctor works at the hospital."

Hands-On Activity: "My Neighborhood Map"

To put their learning into practice, the children will complete a Neighborhood Map activity! They will map out essential places, arrange shops and service centers, and describe their route around town. This interactive activity helps build spatial awareness, speaking confidence, and real-world connection to their surrounding community.

Suggestion for home language practice: You can ask your child on the way home, "What places do we see in our neighborhood?" to help reinforce their learning!

Mid Autumn Festival/Happy Teacher's Day

Dear K3 Show and Tell Parents,

As we enter the next two weeks of lessons, we will have shorter learning days due to the upcoming school holidays on Friday, September 25 and Monday, September 28. During these weeks, I will incorporate two meaningful and culturally important celebrations into our regular K3 Show and Tell English lessons.

Mid-Autumn Festival

This week , our lessons will introduce students to the traditions and meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Through simple English vocabulary, sentence patterns, and fun classroom activities, students will learn about some of the special traditions associated with this celebration.

Our key vocabulary will include:

  • pomelo
  • moon cake
  • BBQ
  • full moon
  • Happy Moon Festival!

Students will practice using these new words in simple sentences while learning about the foods, family traditions, and celebration of the full moon.

Teachers’ Day / Confucius’s Birthday

I will also begin introducing the meaning of Teacher’s Day, which is celebrated in Taiwan in connection with Confucius’s birthday. Students will learn simple English expressions about showing appreciation and saying thank you to their teachers.

To make the lesson fun and memorable, we will practice a short chant:

“Happy Teacher’s Day!
Thank you, Teacher,
for teaching me!”

These special lessons will be incorporated naturally into our regular Show and Tell curriculum. My goal is not only to develop students’ English vocabulary, speaking, and sentence-building skills, but also to help them understand and appreciate the wonderful cultural traditions and celebrations around them.

I look forward to making these two weeks fun, meaningful, and full of learning for our K3 students!

UNIT 2 What do you like to eat?

Dear K3 Dora Parents and Students,

The students and I are excited to begin a new unit 2 all about FOOD! With the theme of "What do you like to eat?" This is a fun and familiar topic that gives K3 Dora learners many opportunities to practice speaking English while talking about foods they know and enjoy.

Our Sentence Pattern

Our main sentence pattern for this unit is:

“What do you like to eat?”
“I like to eat ______.”

Students will practice asking and answering this question while learning how to share their favorite foods with their classmates.

We will also practice polite food conversations:

“Do you want some ______?”
“Yes, please.”
“No, thank you.”

Let's Talk About Food!

Students will learn key vocabulary from their Student Practice Book, including:

vegetables • fruits • meat • pasta • rice • milk

We will also expand our vocabulary by learning examples within each category. For example:

Fruits: strawberries, apples, oranges, grapes
Vegetables: carrots, broccoli, cabbage
Other Foods: pasta, rice, meat, milk

This will help students understand that there are many different foods within each food group while giving them more words to use when speaking English.

Using the picture on page 24 of the Student Book, students will also look at a family enjoying a picnic near a river and use the picture as a guide to describe the foods they see.

Mid-Autumn Festival Fun!

To connect our English learning with a special Taiwanese tradition, we will also enjoy a Mid-Autumn Festival-themed art activity! Students will explore the delicious foods often enjoyed during this holiday, including BBQ foods and mooncakes, while creating a fun and festive art project.

Through this unit, the  goal is to help students build vocabulary, listening and speaking skills, confidence, and an enjoyment of using English in everyday situations.

I am looking forward to a fun, colorful, and delicious food adventure with K3 Dora in our Show and Tell Unit 2.

Welcome to Show and Tell with Ms. Dee

 Dear K3 Parents,

Welcome to K3 Show and Tell with Ms. Dee! I am very excited and enthusiastic to be your child’s Show and Tell English teacher this year. It is my goal to create a warm, positive, and encouraging classroom environment where every child feels comfortable, confident, and excited to learn English.

This year will be an important year of progressive learning and development as we help prepare your child for Grade 1. Throughout the year, we will work together to build the language skills, learning habits, and confidence your child will need as they prepare for the next step in their education.

Most importantly, I want every child to feel that their voice matters in our classroom. I will encourage all students to participate, try their best, and feel proud of their progress. Our Show and Tell lessons will be a positive learning environment where mistakes are a natural and important part of learning. Children will be encouraged to take risks with English without fear of making mistakes.

A key focus this year will be helping students develop the ability to respond using complete sentences. Through daily practice, gentle guidance, and plenty of opportunities to speak, students will gradually become more confident expressing their ideas and communicating in English.

I will reinforce important vocabulary and language patterns through songs, chants, stories, games, and engaging activity-based lessons connected to our Show and Tell book units. These activities will give students opportunities to listen, speak, practice, and use English in meaningful and enjoyable ways.

I look forward to helping your children grow in confidence, develop their English skills, and discover the joy of learning throughout the year. Thank you for your support and partnership as we work together to give your child a happy and successful start in K3 class.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growing, and sharing together!

Warmly,
Ms. Dee
K3 Show and Tell English Teacher
